Last Friday, February 23rd, the Chairman of INOV’s Board of Directors, Fernando Moreira, took to the stage at the closing session of the Jornadas de Engenharia Eletrotécnica e de Computadores (Electrical and Computer Engineering Days) at Instituto Superior Técnico, to present the diploma for the 2022 edition of the Luis Vidigal Award.

The setting for the event was the new Técnico Innovation Center, located in Arco do Cego, which was officially inaugurated during these days.

The 2022 edition of the Award was presented to Manuel Ruivo, Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering, for his work in the area of Point Cloud (PC) geometry coding. After receiving his diploma, Manuel Ruivo presented his thesis, “Learning-Based Point Cloud Geometry Coding: Integrating Sampling Tools for Increased RD Performance“.

The Luis Vidigal Award was created in 2000 in honor of the esteemed professor, with the aim of annually awarding IST masters authors of Master’s Theses that bring together the best scientific, innovation and quality characteristics on topics within the scientific areas of Electrical, Computer and Information Technology Engineering.

Fernando Moreira, President of INOV, is a member of the Award’s Management Committee, as is Professor Luís Miguel Silveira, from IST’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC). A total of 22 editions have been held and 30 out of 261 candidates have been awarded a total of 97 thousand euros.
