Ria Stone

A partnership between the Digitalization department of INOV and the Visabeira Group, resulting in a production unit at the service of IKEA

Beginning

Ria Stone was born in 2012, as a result of an international challenge launched by IKEA that wanted to create a production unit for tableware.

The INOV Digitalization department – which works mostly with Industry 4.0, designing and implementing production support systems in areas such as ceramics – has emerged as a strategic partner perfectly positioned to help Visabeira Group to face the technological challenges.

Development

The result was the creation of the group’s first ceramics manufacturing system with Artificial Intelligence (AI) built in. Using this system, automated detection of anomalies is possible, which in the long run even reduces their occurrence.

And this is only the first step, since the possibilities for this kind of technology in the next 15 years are still difficult to predict.

This partnership is emblematic not only of the performance of the Digitization department, but of INOV as a whole, our main goal being to work closely with our partners to respond to the real needs of industry, acting in the space between academia and industry.

The Ria Stone production facility produces exclusively for IKEA, which does not own it. There are 20 to 30 million pieces produced per year.
