The award ceremony for the 1st Prémio Vencer o Adamastor is scheduled to take place on February 1st at 3pm at the Instituto Superior Técnico.
The ceremony will be presided over by the honourable President of the Portuguese Republic, and a diploma and the prize of 20,000 euros will be awarded to the winner, Gonçalo Correira, whose research aims to decrease the size of artificial intelligence (AI) networks and, consequently, increase energy efficiency.
Prémio Vencer o Adamastor, an initiative of the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores (INESC) and the Público newspaper, aims to distinguish projects developed in the areas of electronics, computing, and information and communication technologies.
The jury of Prémio Vencer o Adamastor was composed of representatives from several higher education institutions and was chaired by Professor José Manuel Tribolet from INESC and IST/U.Lisboa.
The winner Gonçalo Correia concluded, in 2022, his doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with the thesis “Learnable Sparsity and Weak Supervision for Data-Efficient, Transparent, and Compact Neural Models”, under the guidance of Professor André Martins, at the Institute of Telecommunications (IT), the School’s Research Center.
