On March 14, INOV – INESC Inovação had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Helena Alves from INESC MN for the first Regular Tech Talk (RTT) of the year.

Dr. Helena Alves is a researcher in the field of organic electronics and is responsible for the Safefire project, which develops prototypes of wearables for firefighters and first responders.

Wearables differ from conventional electronic devices in that they are more comfortable and safer for operatives.

As well as being able to withstand temperatures of 300º, these devices must also be able to withstand 100 washing cycles at 90º.

The Safefire project is particularly important, given that the textile sector accounts for 10% of Portuguese exports.

The presentation was strongly attended by researchers from the H2020 RESCUER project, which develops cutting-edge electronics for first responders.

This was another step towards creating synergies between the various INESC Lisboa institutes, thus promoting the transfer of knowledge from academia to the field.
